Israeli Films
at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival

July 23 - August 10, 2009

Read more about all the great Israeli films in this year's line-up!

Explore Israel’s vibrant history at the 29th San Francisco Jewish Film Festival!

Join the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival from July 23-August 10 for a kaleidoscopic visual retelling of national cinema, including award winning filmmaker Raphael Nadjari’s A History of Israeli Cinema. Divided into two parts Nadjari has crafted an assemblage of fascinating interviews of leading Israeli actors, producers, film critics, scholars and filmmakers with film clips spanning from early silent films to present day. A “must see” for any fan of Israeli cinema and a fabulous introduction for the uninitiated.

Still hungry for quality Israeli film? SFJFF will also present a special program of short films from Jerusalem-based film school Ma’aleh, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Ma'aleh School of Television, Film and the Arts is the only film school of its kind in the world, in that it trains filmmakers to produce work inspired by their Jewish heritage, fostering a unique connection between the world of media and Jewish culture. Ma’aleh’s director Neta Ariel will attend the Festival and participate in an in-person Q&A after the short film screening.

In Israel during the festival? No problem! New this year, experience SFJFF right on your computer with a program of short films, filmmaker podcasts, a robust archive of Jewish film and more at www.sfjff.org beginning June 23rd!

Full program is available at fest.sfjff.org.
