Ron Leshem will discuss his novel Beaufort -- a visceral portrait of the horror, camaraderie, and absurdity of war -- created from interviews he conducted with Israeli soldiers stationed in Southern Lebanon before Israel’s withdrawal in 2000.

Originally written in Hebrew in 2006, Beaufort won Israel's top literary award - "The Sapir Prize" and has just been released in English. A film version of Beaufort, written by Leshem and directed by Joseph Cedar, is the winner of Berlin International Film Festival's "Silver Bear" for Best Director was nominated for the 2008 US Academy Awards (the Oscars) in the Foreign Language category.
