Music composed by Jews living in the ghettos provides both personal and historical testimonies. This music embodies creativity and hope at a time of complete despair. This lecture and live concert presents beautiful music from the ghettos by composers such as Viktor Ulmann and Karel Berman. The event includes an extraordinary exhibition of original paintings and sculptures by Holocaust survivors expressing themselves through art.In this special event we will join togetherapproximately 100 Holocaust survivors who will arrive from San Jose, Palo Alto, SanMateo, San Francisco, Marin and the East bay.
Dr. Nurit Jugend is an accomplished composer who has authored more than a dozen published works, which have been performed and broadcasted worldwide. She works internationally with leading performance groups such as the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Slovenian Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Sean Edwards. Dr. Jugend lectures at the Continuing Education Studies at Stanford University, the Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto, the Jewish Family and Childrens Services in the San Francisco and Peninsula area as well as at the Silicon Valley Holocaust Survivors group.
