Israelis in the Diaspora
A Conversation Moderated by Ilan Vitemberg

Thursday, April 3, 2008

What is it like to be an Israeli living in the Bay Area? Is there such a thing as an Israeli diaspora culture? What is the relationship of Israelis living in the U.S. to American Jews and American Jewish institutions? And what does it mean to live outside of the country meant to end Jewish exile? Ilan Vitemberg, associate director of the Israel Education Initiative, will moderate this conversation.

Ilan Vitemberg was born and raised on Kibbutz Megiddo in the Jezreel Valley in Northern Israel. He graduated from the University of the District of Columbia with a degree in Theatre Arts and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1999. A former director of the Diller Teen Fellow program, Ilan is currently the associate director of the Israel Education Initiative, a joint project of the Israel Center and the Bureau of Jewish Education.
