60 Years of Israeli Art
Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the State of Israel

You are invited to a series of lectures on Israeli art following the story of art and its development in the six decades of the state of Israel.

The lectures cover various genres such as painting, photography, sculpture and video art from artistic, historic and social aspects. Each meeting describes and analyzes a decade of this development in parallel to the newly formed society and to the changes of world art.

The lectures aregiven by Michal Gavish, PhD, whose works were exhibited in Israel and in the United States, including her most recent show at the SFMOMA Artists Gallery. Michal Gavish is currently completing her MFA degree at the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition she regularly lectures on art and also conducts bimonthly gallery tours on the subject of Contemporary Art.

Next lecture: Discovering America 1967-1979

During the 1960s there was a dramatic change in Israeli Art. Socialist values were abandoned in favor of a fascinating search for original Jewish Aesthetics. Following the Six Day War, Israeli art turned to the American pop art, while still being influenced by European existentialism.
